ANGER STUDIES

People think that it’s okay to burden others with their problems. A lot of people think that others are going to save them from misery. Don’t get me wrong when I say this: People can help you take away from problems, but they aren’t going to take it from you.

The mind works in many different ways and it works even harder when it deals with anger. According to Charles Spielberger, a psychologist who specializes on the study of anger, defines anger as “an emotional state that varies in intensity from mild irritation to intense fury and rage”. Now, the question I’d like to raise is Why are some people angry? How come there are people who are more angry than others? There are many reasons on why people are this way, but one major cause is physiological. The American Psychology Association has already found evidence saying that there are many children who are born with it. They are born to have short tempers, irritable, sensitive, etc. These show from a very early stage of childhood until present time. So, if you think you’re different from others simply because you have anger issues, well, sorry to break it to you, there are many people like you. Now, in the field of Psychology, students are taught that it’s okay to express anxiety, depression, and sadness, but NOT to express anger. Why you ask? Because when a person expresses things out of anger, they lose complete control of themselves and will not learn how to manage their anger constructively. Researches have also found that family life at home plays a huge role when it comes to people with anger problems. It usually comes from the lack of emotional communication at home.

Now, the next question is, “is it okay to be angry and just let it all out whenever you want?” A lot of people think this is okay, but Psychologist have already said that doing that actually increases anger and aggression and it does not help a person AT ALL. If you turn to a psychologist, they will tell you to find what triggers your anger and find a way to control it before you unleash anger.

Getting angry isn’t going to fix anything, it may seem like it will make you feel better but reality is (in the medical world) it makes you feel worse. It’s not going to help you at all. This is quite interesting. In most psychology books, LOGIC always defeats anger. When we get angry, irrationality will always take over. So, the best thing to do is tell yourself that things can be frustrating but there is another way. Thing is, angry people have this “demanding nature” in them and instead of wanting something, they tend to demand things. This plays a huge role in cognitive restructuring. Because angry people have the “demanding nature”, they do not know how to control their anger when they feel hurt or frustrated. When people do not get what they want, they will usually feel hurt or frustrated, but NOT ANGER. With that kind of reaction, angry people tend to use that anger to not feel hurt or frustrated, but it never means your hurt or frustration will go away.

Every angry person has a solution. Never think that you’re different from the rest, because studies in Psychology says otherwise. There is a root problem which causes your anger and it’s all about controlling your anger constructively. Some people are really born with it, so they have to live the rest of their lives making strategies on how not to allow their anger to get the best of them. There are a lot of psychologists who study ANGER and they all say the same thing: YOU NEED TO CONTROL IT. There are many many ways on how to control your anger. There is no excuse for someone to use anger in expressing anything, because it always and forever leads to destruction. No matter what scenario you’re in. Learn to be assertive, NOT AGGRESSIVE.

Remember, you should can’t take away anger and psychologist will tell you that it’s not a good thing if you can eliminate anger. In life, we will encounter many difficulties that will make us feel negative emotions like sadness and frustration. Those are things we can never avoid, but the important thing is how you let those negative things affect you. Controlling anger may seem difficult, but always remember, it’s the best for you because it pays off in the long run. There are justifiable angers, for example, situations wherein you need to get angry because of an unfortunate event, but again, it’s how to let it affect your daily life, they way you think, the way you respond to others, and the way you treat yourself.
